Boating, Water Skiing and Jet Skiing
With two sizeable lakes, namely Cascade Lake and Payette Lake, within a short distance of each other and others close enough for an easy day-trip, power boating, sailing, water skiing and Jet skiing are extremely popular in the Cascade area. Sailing is especially popular and there are regattas on both Lake Cascade and Payette Lake during the summer. Both lakes offer good facilities for launching or docking your boat and have all the basic services close at hand. Two of the most scenic lakes in Idaho are literally just miles apart, making them one of the most desirable destinations in Idaho for boating, water skiing and jet skiing enthusiasts.
Before embarking on any lake or waterway you should make sure that you are familiar with all appropriate safety rules and regulations, have checked weather forecasts and are certain as to the conditions at your chosen location.
Whitewater Adventure
Cascade is in the midst of many of the best rivers and sites for whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking and jet boating in the nation. Numerous outfitters and guide services are available to help you choose a rafting experience to suit you. You can choose trips that last from one to several days and vary from all-out whitewater adventure to relatively mild floats to enjoy the scenery and wildlife. If you’re looking for the exhilaration of a truly wild whitewater adventure, look no further than the Cascade area. The proximity of the Payette, Salmon and Snake rivers, with guided trips available to all and private trips to experienced rafters and kayakers, makes the Cascade area a world-class location for all types of whitewater experience.
The newly build Kelly Whitewater park also offers up plenty of excitement for all age and experience levels for kayakers, canoers, and tubers alike. Located on the Payette River adjacent to the old Boise Cascade Mill site, KWP features 5 water features and a welcome center sure to please.
The normal season for whitewater adventure runs from late spring through summer to early fall, depending on the river flows. For those who have rafting or kayaking experience it is possible to go on self-guided trips with the proper permit; however, there are sections of the rivers, especially the North Fork of Payette, that are limited to experts only.
Aside from the spectacular whitewater opportunities, the quieter sections of these rivers can be especially good for viewing wildlife. In particular, the Cabarton section of the North Fork of the Payette River offers an excellent opportunity for a relatively tame whitewater experience.
